26.07.2004   Load cells for potentially explosive atmospheres according to ATEX certification
Based on a very comprehensive certification process by the German TUV organization HAEHNE has fulfilled the ATEX requirements for the majority of its product program. Therefore the company is able to offer these load cells for potentially explosive atmosphere according to the ATEX guidelines 94/9/EG.

In the order to achieve this certification to production facilities were also comprehensively evaluated. This certification ensures that the manufactured load cell comply with the stringent requirements of the ATEX guidelines.

This certification enables HAEHNE to offer almost any type of sensor as an explosion proof version and therefore can also fulfil many custom requirements.
All the ATEX certified sensors comply with the explosion proof category II 2 EEx. Ia II C T4. This means the sensors can be installed in potentially explosive atmosphere within the zones 1 and 2 which means a high degree of safety. The sensors are also certified for the temperature class T4. This means that the surface temperature of the sensors must not exceed 135 degrees Centigrade. This means that all potentially explosive gases with the exception of Carbon disulfide are covered by the specification of this temperature class.

The HAEHNE explosion proof sensors can only be connected to intrinsically safe electrical devices. This requires the use of safety barriers which are part of the HAEHNE product offering. It is necessary to ensure that the amplifiers and the safety barriers are placed outside the area with the potentially explosive atmosphere.
As an alternative for the use within potentially explosive atmospheres the amplifier electronics together with the safety barriers can also be encased in pressure proof enclosures.

The spectrum of load cells covers practically the whole HAEHNE product range:

  • Radial force sensors made of aluminum or stainless steel with nominal forces ranges from 100 to 10,000 N in well defined nominal force increments to best suits an application. The sensors are also available as integrated measuring rolls.
  • Pillow block load cells
  • Designed for nominal forces ranging from 100 to 10,000 N in a smaller version and in the larger size from 10 to 200 kN made from one single very stiff stainless steel body.
  • Force measurement bolts for nominal force ranges from 1.6 to 63 kN and diameters ranging from 20 to 35 mm.
  • Compression force sensors with nominal forces from 1 to 1,000 kN.
  • Tension and compression force sensor with nominal forces from 5 to 40 kN also suitable for an eccentrically application of force.
