as well as the prevention of winding faults. In tissue machines for instance, an even linear force is necessary to create special softness of the material or achieve a predetermined winding hardness of the rolls. In addition an uneven nip force can result in winding faults such as telescoping rolls, creases and web breakage. Therefore, the careful adjustment and alignment of the rolls is of great importance in the production process.
For this purpose the HAEHNE company has developed the strain gauge roll pressure sensors of the series FCS. Because the nip or gap between the rolls generally is very small, sensors with extremely low profiles are necessary. On the other hand the nominal forces can range from as low as 100 N to as high as 100 kN. These requirements are covered by four sensor sizes with height profiles ranging from as low 6 mm up to 40 mm.
The data measured during the roll adjustment is captured by the mobile strain gauge amplifier PAD. The data can be stored in the PAD but can also be made available via an RS-232 interface for additional PC analysis, for instance, in Excel. In addition, the PAD has also a peak value storage. For stationary applications other strain gauge amplifiers of the HAEHNE product range can also be used.
However, the FCS is not only suitable for compression force measurement in winding equipment it can be also a good fit for compression force measurement in confined spaces of other machinery and equipment.
